Into our Second Half ...
Principal's Message
February promises to be an eventful month for us at Uncas School. On Tuesday, February 7 our grade 4, 5, and 6 students will be heading to Snow Valley for a downhill skiing experience which was postponed from earlier in January due to inclement weather. Our Hot Lunch normally provided on Tuesday has been rescheduled, and we appreciate the efforts of the Hot Lunch committee in accommodating our downhill skiing day.
Teachers' Convention offers two days of professional development for teachers while all students will enjoy an extra long weekend! Upon their return our grades 4, 5, and 6 students will complete their In Class Speech Competition in anticipation of determining the three grade level champions at our school event on February 22. The champions will move on to represent Uncas School at the District Speakoff Championship in March!
Our Running Club competed at the Harrier Relays in January, and will continue practising for their entry in the Edmonton Journal Games at the University of Alberta Butterdome on February 21. We have 16 athletes working hard and having fun as members of the Running Club!
Also in January, our students had an opportunity to experience the sport of curling. Instructors from the Rocks & Rings organization were on hand during the gym classes to teach the skills connected with curling. Thank you to our Parent Committee for sponsoring this challenging and fun activity.
