Welcome to Uncas Elementary School. Uncas Elementary School is a school rich in tradition. Throughout its thirty-one years of service to the community, Uncas has consistently met and exceeded the educational needs of our student population as well as being an integral part of the community. Our greatest assets in furthering this legacy are our students, staff and parents whose commitment and dedication to Uncas continue to uphold the traditions and values of this community.
An African proverb states that it takes a community to raise a child. As a community of parents, staff, students and community members, it is my hope that we can help our students to develop the skills they need to realize their future goals.
I am looking forward to working with you and your children as we delve into the exciting opportunities and challenges that this year will present.

Back to School 2010 - 2011
Planning for Back to School
The past year was great at Uncas Elementary School and we're looking forward to welcoming new and returning students for 2010/2011.
Uncas Elementary is closed from June 30 to August 18. We will reopen on Thursday, August 19 at 7:30 a.m. Please visit the school during the following times to register your children if you have not done so already.
August 19 - 27 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

First day of Class
Grades 1 to 6 classes will resume on Monday, August 30. Full -day Kindergarten classes begin on Tuesday, September 7. Orientation to Kindergarten begins the first week of school. The Kindergarten teacher will contact you at the end of August to set up your child's orientation time.

Supply Lists
As you prepare for back to school this fall, please reference our school supply lists to ensure your children have everything they need for the first day back in the classroom.
Student Transportation
Student transportation is provided at no cost to all students living the Uncas Elementary area. General information, applicable fees, and FAQs about busing are available on the Student Transportation page of the EIPS' division website.
All families using EIPS' student transportation services should have received a letter in May outlining route information and times as well as applicable fees. Updated versions with the new time pickup/drop off times will be sent out with your bus passes in August. We encourage parents to take advantage of the EIPS' secure online payment option to pay transportation fees. Pay before June 30 and save $25.
Summer Hours
Summer Office Hours for Elk Island Public Schools
Elk Island Public Schools' (EIPS) Central Office will remain open throughout the summer to complete year-end activities and prepare for the 2010/2011 school year. However, please note the following changes to our office hours for the summer months:
Summer Hours (July and August)
Open Monday to Thursday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Closed Fridays July 2 to August 13 (inclusive)
Statutory Holiday
Closed Thursday, July 1 Canada Day
Closed Monday, August 2 Heritage Day
Regular office hours will resume the week of August 16
Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
PLEASE NOTE: Our Student Transportation department will also be closed on statutory holidays and all Fridays from July 2 to August 13 (inclusive). As such, Student Transportation cannot accept transportation payments on these days.
All parents/guardians are welcome to pay their transportation fees online at their own convenience using our secure online payment option at http://www.eips.ca/content.php?page=294. Pay your transportation fees before the June 30 early deadline to save $25.

Uncas Out of School Care and Pre-School
Come and join the fun learning atmosphere where children sing, dance and play their way through the alphabet, counting, colours, sharing and shapes. Uncas Pre-School Program is accepting registrations for pre-school.
